Because there’s no Can B! When in Rome achieves B Corp Certification
When In Rome Wine is now a Certified B Corporation.
As you know, When in Rome has always been a purpose-led business, on a mission to decarbonise the wine industry. We chose to become part of the B Corp Community because we want to create benefit for all of our stakeholders - our customers, our suppliers, our shareholders, our employees and, most importantly, for our planet.
We’re only the fourth wine brand in the UK to gain this prestigious accolade and we couldn’t be prouder.
What is B Corp Certification?
B stands for Benefit for all. Since 2006, the non-profit network B Lab™ has been certifying B Corporations, companies that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
B Corp certification is more than just an award; it's a testament to unwavering commitment to being a force for good. It's a recognition of businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. It's a reflection of our mission to decarbonise the wine industry by prioritising sustainability, ethics, and community.
Our Sustainability Journey
Achieving B Corp certification didn't happen overnight. It's the result of years of dedicated work and a passion for doing things differently. Here are some of the key aspects of our sustainability journey that helped us earn this prestigious certification:
1. Eco-Friendly Packaging: We've always believed in reducing the carbon footprint of the wine industry and that ethos is at the heart of the brand That's why we offer wines in alternative formats that are lighter, more compact, and have a lower environmental impact compared to traditional single-use glass bottles.
2. Unwavering Transparency and Innovation: We believe that our customers have the right to know and assess the impact of their purchases and that’s why we publish the carbon footprint of our products. We acknowledge that a perfect solution to single use-glass bottles is yet to exist, and we are continually working with our partners to give consumers new lower-carbon alternatives.
3. Further Impact Reductions: When in Rome recognises that customers have limited ability to reduce their Scope 3 carbon emissions alone - it is up to us to calculate and reduce the climate impact of your purchases. Working tirelessly with both our supply chain and wine producers we are evaluating a number of optimisations to further reduce our environmental impact of our business and products.
B Corp Certification means we are part of a worldwide community of businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental impact and value people, environment and business decisions equally. When in Rome has always stood for decarbonisation, and this certification broadens our focus and shows we are a sustainable and responsible business.
